In iba Cilmeto War the Bilish fired 15.000 000 shots and killed 21,000 Russians, or one man to overy 700 shotz The French forces in the same

ar fired 39.c00,000 shots and killed $1,000 Russians, or one man to every 590 shots fired. The Russians on the other bad, fred 45,000,000 shots at both English and French and succeeded is killing 48,000, or one soldier to every grashais which they fired.

War, after all, is not so dangerous a game sa the majority of people imagine. The bullets of que srmy hit the enemy in axis places 80 times out of every 103. Of every 103 shots which strika some soldier 43 will lodge in the legs (from the hips down to the feet); 33 shots will lodge la the arms (from the shoulders to the tips of the fis gers); the abdomen receives 11 bullets, the chest and back 11, the neck, one ballet!, and 11 shots strike some part of the soldiers' heads.

It is farther proved by oficial 6gures that when a soldier has been wounded, even serious. his chances of ultimate secovery are very bigb.

On the basis of a table compiled by the. German War Department, out of every 165 American soldiers wounded la Cabs or Puerto Rico, go will eventually get entirely well.

Of the remaining 17 out of the 115 wounded soldiers are found to die of their lujarles on the ground before they can be removed, and an average only of 11 die alter reaching the hospital,

So that the chances of the American soldier returning beras alive were go out of 116. --Dally Mall.

LATE TELEGRAMS,

[From Australian Papers.]

LONDON, November tõik Great interest has been created by speech which Lard Salirbury mamde in the Goldball on the nth November in which he stated that Great Britain would not declare a Protectorate over Egypt unless she was absolutely forced la by the other Powers. Generally speaking the world was far less peacesble at the present time than it was a year go. Grest Britain, he stated, depended on her ability to defend her stores The Busse Pecha was still alive yesterday ; } with her naval forces, which are for larger than the condition of the second nurse, named Ho. | those of say of her oppaaonis, chegger, is described as sallsfactory, and so far The Lord Mayor's procession was woellferously no further cases are reported

The serum reached Vienna on Sunday night, when all the persons who had been isolated were inoculated with it.

Dr. Müller, who was only thirty-two years old, died on Oct. 13. On the evening of Oct. as the fast sacraments were admiolatored to him. The chaplain proceeded with the Host to the window of the room where Dr. Müller was lying. The pallent (says the Timer' correspondent) was seen to lielo bed and call out loud enough to be heard by the priest, "I repent of all my sins" The nuns on daty knelt next to the bed, The pilert then gave absolution and raised the Host to the window. For a time Dr. Müller raised his clasped hard muttering a prayer, and then sank back on his philow. This Impressive EcoDo was afterwards repeated outside the window of the room occupied by Name Pecha, As long as his condition permitted, Dr. Müller mada minule memoranda on the coura of his malady. He declined un lejection of seraus.

The Standard's correspondent points out that it is not the so-called babonic plague but A secondary form of Asiatic plague which 5 appeared, Dr. Müller, was in Bombay treated scores of cases of elagne, did not think Barisch's care of plague Infectious, but at first diagnosed only symplots of faflacres and pneumonia. Dr. Miller's fanoral took place before daylight on Oct. 14. He was buried at the Central Cemetery calaide the town, The ceremony was attended by his brother and slatst, Professor Nothpagel, shout twenty senior members of the medical professlop, a number of young doctors, and a few of Dr. Mdler's intimato filends. The grave was only the regulation thres mètre deep, The ropes used for lowering the caffle were burled with it. The undertaker's assistants who touched the bler had to wash their hands In a solution of carbelle seld immediately after wards. The romaine had first been placed with disinfectants in a wooden cofile and then in a metallic cover hermetically closed, a In the CLs of Barlach, The priest and his acolytus stood some twenty paces away from the open grave while reading the funeral service.
