A Greek man-of-war has opened fire on a Turkish transport on the way to Crete with troops to suppress the disturbances there, and has driven her back into port. Important Issues in connection with the Far Eastern Question were settled on Korean soll in & contest between two powers, China and Japan, both claiming the right to control the | Hermit Kingdom, Japan succeeded in defeating her opponent, but reaped no RASPBERRYADE, &c. benefit from her victories, at least in Kórea. It will be very curious if the Eastern Question proper should be settled by a contest between the Turks and the Greeks over Cretan affairs, a minor issue In the great struggle, while Russia stands by, ready, as in Korea and China, to step in when the fighting is over and gather in for herself all the honours and rewards.
