The general feeling was that li was better in this way to escape the rush at a later hour, even at the cost of hunger and thirst Inside the building there was a discussion of demonstrative order. The names of the pugt. Tints were to be heard everywhere. The Sullivan men distinguished themselves from the her ente of the Californian by wearing Bulo green and-white badges. By the side of the ring wordy battles between the adherents of the pugilists became warmer as time went on. The Sullivan men raised the cry, "We will lick him Jo two rounds!" to which the Carbeti, men answered back. You won't lick him in 100 rounds." This was followed by cat-calls and hanting. The police endeavoured to maintain order, but the mere they rapped the timbers with their batons the mois noisy grew the crowd At length the disdibers were threatened with expulsion, and then for a minute or so quietness was restored, but the "boy" soon began the notty demonstration anew.
As the crowds poured into the amphitheatre the air became heavy, and it was feared that the sence of oppressiveness experienced by every body might affect the fighters, The committee widered the tarpaulin e ver over the arena to be taken down, which showed the stars twinkling overhead, and the moon shining brightly.
Sultivan entered the ring at 8.3 p.m., and Caibest followed galckly. The champion wore green trunks and black shoes, and in his corner wele Jack McAuliffe and Charley Johnson, Behind Corbrit were Billy Delaney and Jack Donaldson.
