IT appears that we fell into a slight mistake la our leader of Saturday last in not giving the liquidators of the East Borneo, Lamag, and Songei Koyah Planting Companie credit for collecting the first payment of the purchase the reports they issued on March 3rat, and for money of the three estates; but it is really a mailer of very little difference, and was solely owing to the ambigulty of the recently issued reports. Nevertheless it is only fair to state that the liquidators actually did more work for the shareholders than we gave them, credit for. September 8b on the subject of the bath! outrage on Mr. and Mrs. Polhill-Torner at Sungpan-particulars of which have alrendy appeared in the Teltgroph-gives the following account of how the trouble" ended:--Darlog the Saturday, rumours got about again of an Intended renewal of the disturbances on Sunday morning, so early on this day the Magistrate sent the Turaers and their attendanis Away. quite early with an escort of soldiers, on the way to Chengiu. Some distance on the way they encountered an army of village women, Celestial amazons, coming to wreak their vengeance on newly come Foreigners. A special spits was apparent against Mrs. Terner, but the orby had escaped. After a tiresome and difficult journey, the fugitives reached friends and shelter, and the matter will be daly brought to the notice of the proper Chinese authorities, No harm was dons to property, and if the desire was to prevent Foreigners to settle in the city, a grave mis:ake wan made in outraging, as well as ejecting the objectionable persons. It is manifest that under present Treaty regulations,_ If the officials decline to allow the presence of a Foreign resident in the city they have but to act on ther did at Shuo-king (the last named city) and avold the errors committed at Songpin, in order to "constitutionally" effect their object. There is a decided objection in official quarters, to Foreigners residing in soms of the cities in Srechuen, and in one case bo provisions are allowed to be sold within a certain distance of the city to Foreigners travelling through. Whether this be "constitutional" or not rests we must suppose with the Consul
