He had been asked by some of the shareholders to make a few remarks on the Board would not consider them in the light report and would therefore do so, and hoped the of hostility as such was far from his intention he was merely about to make few suggestions. First, then, as to the Indebtedness of the Company It was very beavy-7 per cent, was a very high rate for a large, and the weight of interest was very concern in the position of the Dock Company to e paying. It had occurred to him that money could be got at a lower rate, with ease, with which to pay off the present liabilities amounting to $300,000.He thought the Directors might consider whether or not it would be politie to lasuo debentures at a lower rate than per cent, for he thought all the money they wanted would be forthcoming, and that, too, at a very much lower mte in view of the very first class security the company could give to investors. Secondly, as to the Deprecia- ilon Account: His friends, for whom he held, as it were, a "brief without a "refresher" however thought the improvements and up. keep at the docks and elsewhere should not all be paid out of the earnings. If the property depreciated why not write down the amount depreciation annually? If some such alteration in the system of keeping the accounts were adopted he and his friends were convinced that a regular dividend of fully 12 per cent, could be paid. Then there was the Admiralty Dock, con cerning which he had the pleasure to inform the shareholders that he was in the possession of the opinions of an expert on that magnificent dock, who assured him that it was con structed at a very low cost, and were it to be built now it would cost a good deal more than the sum at which it stood in the Company's books(applause). It was needless to give a bonus to contributors, except as regards the objection to a two-penny ha'penny commission of $10,0-0 to contributers! for there was no need to fear opposition, The Dock Company could do the work cheaper and better than any shipbuilding firm outside Eng. land, and they could dock ships that no other Easter company could put on their stocks. Directors consider as the value of their land Mr. Bellos-I would like to know what the adjoining the Cosmopolitan Dock?
