Inspector Matheson stated that the body was placed in the Mortuary on Saturday last. There were bruises and cuts all over the body. A deep incised wound on the back was triangular in shape and appeared to have been inflicted with a blunt_instrument. There was a severe, contased wound on the left check which fractured the jiw. Also a big incised wound below the right neck, as well as a v∙Ty

The hands were chopped about in a shocking manner, and the man appeared to have been very severely beaten while alive. A portion of the nose and left ear were cut off He thought the first attack must
have been from the rear.
Other witnesses were called, and deposed that the deceased had a pawn ticket, a dollar, some cents, and a few cash in the purse which was found upon his person.
