THE TRIAL TRIP OF THE
"PERSEVERANCE” *.
(NY ONE WHO WASN'T THERE)
"No mock to hard but that a little wave
May beat admission in a thousand yours."
The Perseverance is a steam launch that has lately been constructed for the Steam Launch Campany, Limited, by A. G. Gordon & Co., Ld. There is a good deal of "limited" in this husiness, but that is the fashion now in Hong- kong, and so we mustn't grumble. According to our fecal contemporaries, this new 'terror of the Eastern seas' made a trial trip on Sunday last, and fairly beat the record. The Fish Wrapper, with an evident eye tofuture patronage, calls the Perseverance a handsome little steamer (which she is not), and tells the "one reader" that on her trial tripround the island she carried aree party, composed of the Directors and their friends. That is another' tarradiddle, as there was no trial trip

If the owners of the Perseverance con sider their boat a champion, I shall be awfully glad to race the Alice against her to the Gap yachting terms for whatever sum they please to Rock and back, or to Macao and back, en fair name, and whenever they like a strong gale of wind preferred.
