Banks are decidedly firmer since we last wrote; a fair number of shares have been taken up at 151 per cont" premium and there are further buyers. Sales of Hong- kong Fires have been arranged at 340, and at this reduced rate shares are still. obtainable. Docks are hardly so firm to- day, offers to sell at 35 per cent, premium.| not proving a sufficient inducement to believers in the stock. Some cash transactions in China and Manilas at 122 have been reported, but at this rate there are still sellers. China Sugars are wanted ut 183. but holders stand out for a point on higher, and consequently no business has heen done. Luzons continue their upward flight; sales have made' for cash up to 77 and for delivery on December 31st at 80, and there are additional buyers on these terms. In the scrip of the Tonquin Coal Mining Co, soine transactions have been are weged at 70 per cent. premium for the cod of the year. Tramway stock is decidedly weaker, sellers at 285 ruling the market, and in all probability shares could be obtained at a lower figure. Nothing phone else has come under our observation.

THE NEGLECT OF LIFE. ASSURANCE.
THERE is no feature of our civilised life that a thoughtful man with more force: than the neglect of LIFE ASSURANCE. BY payment of a small quarterly subscription any man of good health can secure a very large sum to his family in case of premature death, yet hundreds of families brought up in comfort- perhaps in luxury-are left in extreme poverty every year from the bread winner having neglected to assure his life. In the East. many a man lives up to his income, knowing well that. if death cut him off suddenly, his wife and
