These notes are no doubt highly amusing and Instructive to the ordinary reader, although we have heard it stated more than once that some of the news items appear strangely out of place in the recognised "organ of the missionaries." A few of the paragraphs are very cleverly written, and the subjects dealt with are so skilfully handled and in several instances so full of perce

The first extract quoted above from the London Referee, dealing with the death of Captain Wess, was penned by Mr. HENRY SAMPSON, the editor of the paper; the second is the handiwork of a well known theatrical critic who writes under the nom de plume "Carados." The London special corres pondent of the China Mail is a literary thief who tries to pass off as his own, the work of accomplished journalists whose shoe laces he is not fit to tip. We have only given two, specimens of this artiste's "cribbing," but almost every paragraph in the two communications referred to are taken wholesale from various London .papers.
