AMOY C. C. V. HONGKONG C. C. This inter-port match was commenced on the ground of the Amoy Cricket Club at Kulangsoo on Thursday, January 11th, and terminated the allowing day in a crushing defeat for the home players by an innings and 166 runs.

Winning the tons Travers elected to defend the stumps, sending in Lane and Rice to resist the attacks of Lawson and Greaves. A bad start was made, the telegraph board, showing only eight runs when the Gunner was clean bowled by Greaves, and in the following over. Hedley was well caught by Price off Lawson for a couple' Two for cleven. Bunbury, who became Rice's next partner, quickly got to work, and the fielders had a busy him of it until "the grand Old Buff "placed a ball in Lawson's hands at slip, after putting together 17 in his usual free style. Three for 43. Travers took the vacant wicket and 'im- mediately became busy, his partner meanwhile playing with remarkable, steadiness, his score increasing principally by singles. With 96 up the Captain was sent back for a well hit 16, Including one three and five twos, 43 runs having been put on since the fall of the last wicket. With the addition of seven rus Jarrett was bowled by Tait, who had previously superseded Greaves, the retiring batsman having failed to score and Newington only put together five when a catch by Dow off Talt sant him back, the telegraph board now recording six wickets for 113 runs. When Coxon became associated with Rice the play became a trifle: livelier, the left hander, having got well set, hitting out in good style. The bowling was conspicuously weak and the changes were frequent. Coxon had credited himself with 13 when Dow got one past his bat, and seven wickets were down for 145. Hawkins made

short stay, falling to a combination of Lawson and Dow, after scoring right, and then Barff came in with the score at 172. The scoring now became fast and furious both batsmen leting out at everything, and no less than 77 runs were put on when Rice was sharply caught by Tait off Greaves, having scored 130 runs out of a total of 249. The left handed player who was first in

and ninth wicket down, played a masterly to nings, his large total including one six, one five, one four, four threes, and twenty twos'- He was loudly cheered on returning to the pavilon. Sadler was last man in, but he had no chance of datinguishing himself, being immediately run out by his partner. The grand total amounted to a51 runs, of which 3a were extras a reliable Indication of the very weak all round character of the opposition. The bowling honors were about evenly divided amongst the Amoy trundlers, Greaves taking three wickets, while Lawson, Tall and Dow were credited with twp

As an active member of the Rowing Club, he also has done good service, and the Scotch "Eights" and "Fours" will loose one of the best men who have sat in the boats. -Our readers will deeply regret to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Alexander Sim, of Messrs. Brand, Brothers & Co. Last night we briefly announced that he had met with an accident whilst out riding on Tuesday evening on the Bubbling Well Road, but it was not thought his injuries would have a fatal termination. It ap pears that about six o'clock on Tuesday evening Mr. C. J. Holliday was out on the Bubbling Well Road when he met a rideriess pony, and soon afterwards he found Mr. Sim lying on the ground, about 100 yards this side of the Cottage, in a stato of semi-consciousness With assistance Mr. Sim was taken to his residence, where he was subsequently attended by Dr. Little and Dr. Johnston. This morning he became uncon- scious, and expired shortly before eleven o'clock from concussion of the brain, the base of the skull having, it is said, been fractured.

how the accident occurred there

seems to be no definite information. So far as we have. been able to gather, we believe that Mr. Sim first ROYAL ITALÍAN OPERA, balanced himself and fell to the lost one of his stirrups and afterwards over- ground. It is presumed that the pony either kicked him or THEATRE trod on his face, breaking the bridge of his noise, and otherwise injuring his face and head.
