Although there is a considerable amount of sickness amongst the Chinese, we are pleased at being informed by the medical faculty that, although the symptoms are somewhat similar to cholera, still there have been no real cases of that disease, and we may hope the cold weather will prevent the prevailing sickness reaching

Mr. Wilson said that when the Chinese were arrested they got Portuguese to come forward and state the utteries were theirs. Mr. Oliviera said his au thorities did not allow these lotteries, but they could not prevent them. With regard to lotteries there were others kept by foreigners, not Portu- guese. The Portuguese ought not to have been commenced with. He would not allow it. He wanted the printers who printed the tickets to be found.
