Mr. Johnson saith that in the clausens printed the limit was fixed at $150,000 the original clause was altered for the purpose of protecting the diree tors. It was not intended by that to increase the risks of the Society, but to give the directors power to reinsure. Practically, up to the present, they had been in the habit of taking much larger lines than provided for in article 129 as it now stood (150,000), and in the even, of any loss, as by the failure of the office in which reinsurance was effected, or otherwise, the directors might have been hell responsible. They understood that the sum of $150,000 had created some alarm amongst shareholders, but it was not intended to increase, the risk to the Society. But they had since found that $10,000 was not a sufficient limit, and they therefore proposed to substitute the clause which he now moved, leaving the amount of $150,000 as before, but providing that an excess might be taken and reinsured.
