A noteworthy movement-and one not altogether unexpected-has been made in the stock of the Hongkong and Whampoa | Feb Dock Company since we last wrote. A rumour has become generally current--on whose authority we know not, that a divi- dend of five per cent. for the last half year will be paid, also that the accounts will show very satisfactory results, not merely In business prospects but in clearing off the Company's heavy liabilities; and the consequence has been a great rush on the stock. At 48 per cent. premium, fur cash, a very large, business-several hún. dred shares-has been booked, ant at this rate there is still a strong demand for the scrip. Banks have also improved, and for the end of the month, at 119 per cent. pre muim, substantial transfers have been effected. No cash business has come under our observation, but there are plenty buyers offering 118, without inducing holders to come to terms. Hongkong Fires have been made the subject of several Inquiries at 950 per share, and if sellers would come to terms at that rate a fair amount of business would be done. Both Chinese Insurances and China Fires are weak, with sellers, at subjoined quotations. Nothing has been done in Steamboats, but a few more Hotels have changed hands at 925, and buyers still offer the price. Sugars remain exceedingly quiet at 162h; but we shall probably have to report some im- portant business in this stock within the next few days. --

LETTER BOXES,
Many boxes of letters are received at the Post Office not scaled, that is to say, the box is fastened with sealing wax, but there is no impression of a seal.
The attention of boxholders is called to the necessity of carefully sealing such boxes with some recognisable scal, and of sending a chit- book or receipt with them. The ofhission of the latter precaution leaves a doubt as to whether. the contents of the box ever reached the Post Office: the omission of the former, as to whether $1.45 10 1.54 part of them might not have been abstracted for $3.10 10 333 the sake of the Postage stamps. 20.0 to 0.13
