and Travers, Forbes and St. Croix trundling for the opposition. Travers drove the slow bowler for 2 and 5 in his first over, and then foll x victim to Bird off St. Croix's first ball. Bell Irving was the text comer, and a long stand was made, the stranger playing very carefully whilst his partner was in a slogging mood, and opened his shoulders to everything within reach. After scoring a rather lucky 30, Irving was well caught at the wicket by St. Croix off Hynes, and Patterson also succumbed to the wiles of the Secretary, after placing 20 to his credit. When Charley and Mayne became associated the gains promised to become lively until the former had to retire hurt, leaving Haro and the sprinter to play until the call of time, when the stumps were drawn, the juveniles having scored 71 for three wickets. The fol- lowing is the full score:-

THE RECEPTION OF THE PRINCES

IN HONGKONG.

We are requested by the Honorary Secretary to the Reception Committee to furnish the following particulars with regard to the present state of the ar rangements for the reception of the Queen's Grandsons.

THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH-MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH, 1881.

it will be recollected, was along a line. drawn from Government Honзe down Glonealy Ravino, Wyudhain-street und Hollywood-road to Lyndhurst Terraco, through Lyndhurst Terrace and norðaя Pottinger-streat to Wellington-street, and down Wellington-street to Atick's shop. Thonce down Wyndham-street and past tho Hongkong Club and the Club Germania along Queen's Road to Bonham Strand, down Bonham Strand West on to the Prayu sud back along the Praya to Peddar's Wharf. Thence by water to Murray Wharf and from Murray Wharf to Government House. Ono alteration only it has been found necessary to make, and that's that instead of conveying the Princos by steam launches from Mareny Wharf to Government House, as it was at first announced would be done, this will be managed by the more prosate method of chairs carried by coolies preceded by. a guard of policemen.

The route has been selected as affording in the most convenient way a comprehensive view of the whole

Since then the chief agitators have baon panishod with death, and the agitation sovins to have subsided. Some members of the progessive party

told the Japanese officials that they would like to completely overthrow the prosent Government, and organizo a new Governincot themselves; the anti-progessionists, however, hold the reins of the Government at present.

The Coreans who are staying in Japan for educational purposes, have divided themselves as follows: one is in the Ikuno gold mine; he will, how- over, shortly go to the Mint in Osaka, from where, after completely learning the metallurgical process, lie will re- turn to Corea; two are learning the method of leather manufacture in Osaka; and two are learning the Ja panese language in Tokio; later on they will also learu English.-Japan Herald.

Princes.

Their Royal Highnesses' visit will of course be marked by other forms of entertainment also, but it is only in the two modes mentioned that the Re- caption Committee will figure in their ropresentative capacity, and, these corn- pleted, their official functions cease so far as is at present known,

With regard to the address, it has been already drafted, and in due time will be laid on the table for signature. A casket is in course of preparation in which to keep it; and it is probable that both the address and the casket will be in duplicate.

The illuminations of course are be yond the control of the Committee; they can set the ball rolling and give it a certain direction, but that done, its impetus must be dependent upon the tone and sontiments pervading the community generally. `

|

Beaconsfold, St. John's Cathedral, Head-quarter House, Stonehenge, and the buildings on a level with it.

The illuminations, as stated before, will be between nine and twelve o'clock on the night of the day on which the Addresses are presented at the Loves at Governinent House.

A further considoration of the iden of an illuminated boat procession seems to show no reason why it should not be carried out, and immediate steps

are about to be taken to set the matter in train.

The Public Subscription Ball list is now ont, and gentlemen wishing to sub- scribe are invited to do so forthwith. This afternoon, at four o'clock, a meet- │ing of the Illumination Committee will be held at the City Hall, and the Com- ritte will be very glad to see any gen- tlemen who may feel disposed to attend.

They were deliberately chosen by the Com- mittes elected from a meeting repre- sonting all sectious of the community, as the particular form in which the Princes should be welcomel, and there is therefore ample guarantee that they will be universally carried out. The only danger is that the process of fer- mentation which always goos on in these matters should be prolonged too far, and that the Princes should be Minister, at the request of the King. upon us before people have made op His uncle Dainkun in a fanatical advo. their minds what they are going to do. cate of anti-progressive principles, and This danger is somewhat increased is said to have caused the last Primo by the fact that it was at a rather late Minister to be barat.
