The receiving station is situated at Mount Butler on Hong Kong Island and relays received there are passed down to Broadcasting House for re-broadcast or recording by lines. During the year under review a total of 3,607 English, principally BBC but also including Voice of America and Radio Australia, and some 1,465 Chinese programmes were received for direct relay or recording by Radio Hong Kong. The number of English programmes received represented a drop of 9.3 per cent on 1973-74 while the number of Chinese programmes received were almost the same as in the previous year.

The standard of reception of the BBC direct 0900-1600 GMT was fairly good except during December when reception was generally poor between 1300-1600 GMT and the Singapore relay was preferred. During the periods 2245-0030 GMT BBC direct reception was usually inferior to the Singapore relay.

The BBC World News from 2200-2215 GMT was relayed via satellite because of its very superior quality to short wave reception and also the fact that it is looked upon as the main
