66. 'Enquire Within', which started in January deals with purely domestic problems, recipes, child care, general household knowledge and 'Housewives' Choice', which began in November, is as its name implies a request programme which is particularly supported by the older generation which prefers Cantonese music to popular western offerings. Children's programmes were also expanded and considerable emphasis has been laid on having children participate actively in the broadcasts rather than merely listening. So successful have children been as actors that it has been impossible to make room in programmes for all the children who have written in asking if they could take part.

67. A notable feature in 1959 was Hong Kong's participation in Welsh Goodwill Day. The idea for this Goodwill Day came from a Welsh clergyman, the Rev. Gwilym DAVIES, in 1918 and the first message was sent in 1922. Mr. DAVIES' idea was that radio should be used, once a year, to enable children all over the world to speak to each other thus creating bonds between children of many lands. Hong Kong took part for the first time last year, and messages in English, Chinese and Welsh were exchanged between children here and in Wales. Radio Hong Kong's Chinese Service broadcast a special explanatory programme together with Welsh music in the children's programmes.

68. Children in the afternoon session of bi-sessional schools are not able to listen to the children's programmes during the afternoon, and during the year arrangements were made to repeat the previous day's programme in the morning for the benefit of these children. The special programmes produced by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association, which maintains children's community listening receivers in its resettlement estate roof top clubs, continued in production and were most popular with the clubs.

Religion

69. Two Christian services were broadcast each Sunday, the morn- ing service in rotation from St. Mary's Church, Causeway Bay, the Chinese Baptist Church, Caine Road, the Roman Catholic Cathedral and the Hop Yat Church in Bonham Road. The evening service came from the studio.

70. Special services and programmes were broadcast at Christmas and Easter.
