to each radio set, the areas of good and poor reception, the size of the audience to local and foreign radio services, and to selected Radio Hong Kong and B.B.C. programmes.

132. The information gathered was of great value and will give useful guidance in the future planning of programmes.

RELATIONS WITH OTHER BROADCASTING ORGANIZATIONS

British Broadcasting Corporation

133. The B.B.C. again gave invaluable assistance in many fields. Considerable use was made of the Transcription Service which main- tained its usual high standard of programme and technical quality. The B.B.C. Pronunciation Unit continued to supply its lists of standard pronunciations of new words and names in the news.

134. Miss Aileen Woods, who has been with the English Service of Radio Hong Kong since 1946, took part in the annual B.B.C. Christmas round-the-world broadcast. Several contributions to other B.B.C. programmes were made during the year, including material recorded at the Mission to Lepers settlement on Hay Ling Chau for a General Overseas Service documentary on leprosy, and messages and songs by English and Chinese children for a Welsh Region programme.

135. The Controller of Broadcasting continued to act as corres- pondent for Radio Newsreel, and facilities were made available by Radio Hong Kong for other B.B.C. correspondents.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

136. Relations with the C.B.C. were strengthened during the year, recording and transmission facilities being made available to the Corporation's correspondent in Hong Kong, a contribution being made to a series of programmes on marriage customs produced by the C.B.C. overseas service, and use being made of a wide range of transcriptions offered by C.B.C., which included high quality music, drama and documentary programmes.

Australian Broadcasting Commission

137. Radio Australia continued to supply ‘Australian Magazine' on a regular basis, a programme of short talks and interviews about life in the country.
