Arsenal Street premises; Radio Hong Kong relayed the com- mentaries on the Macau Grand Prix in November from Radio Vila Verde.

64. As in previous years, the Controller of Broadcasting acted as local correspondent for the British Broadcasting Corporation and several items were used in Radio Newsreel during the year. The subjects included the development of Kai Tak, the loss of the C.P.A. Skymaster off Hainan Island, typhoons Ida and Pamela, the arrival of the Labour Party Delegation from China, the 12th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products, the arrival of Mr. Dag Hammarskjoeld from Peking and the cold spell in January. Assistance was also given for B.B.C. Television coverage of a fashion show held in the Peninsula Hotel and the 12th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products.

In other contributions to B.B.C. programmes, two schoolchildren at King George V School recorded a Christmas conversation for the Welsh Region and several servicemen recorded Christmas messages for the Forces Family Favourites

programme.

65. Facilities were made available to the B.B.C. corres- pondent in South East Asia to enable recordings of the ceremony at the dedication of the Sai Wan War Memorial to be made and sent back to the B.B.C.

66. The Assistant Head of the B.B.C. Far Eastern Service paid a visit to Hong Kong in February and was given assistance in selecting new staff for the B.B.C. Chinese Service.

67. As in previous years, Radio Hong Kong was extremely grateful for the considerable help given by the B.B.C. This help consisted of a larger number of B.B.C. transcription pro- grammes and advice on several problems which arose during the year.
