(i) Clearance, under an Administrative Officer and Senior Resettlement Officer, which is responsible for the clearance of squatters and other eligible persons into resettlement accommodation;

(ii) Squatter Control, headed by an Administrative Officer and Senior Resettlement Officer, which is responsible for the control of 'tolerated' unlawful structures and prevention of new ones, for resiting operations and the administration of licensed areas and transit camps and for processing tenants under the rent advance scheme;

(c) Works, headed by a Senior Maintenance Surveyor, assisted by a Maintenance Surveyor both seconded from the Public Works Department, is responsible for maintenance and improvement works in resettlement estates and factories, and cottage and licensed areas, and the preparation of plans for cultivation clearance;

(d) Headquarters, under the Secretary and Treasury Accountant, is responsible for the internal administration of the department.

The department structure is shown at Appendix 16.

117. There were 17 senior non-departmental posts in the depart- ment which are filled by Administrative and Executive Officers, a Treasury Accountant, a Housing Manager seconded from the Housing Authority and a Senior Maintenance Surveyor, a Maintenance Surveyor and an Assistant Building Services Engineer, all seconded from the Public Works Department. Of these 17 posts, seven are at present filled by expatriate officers.

118. During the year, the following changes occurred at Assistant Commissioner level or above:

In May 1969, Mr. J. P. Aserappa, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade A, resumed duty as Commissioner for Resettlement on return from annual leave and Messrs. P. BISHOP, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, and C. P. Keeling, Administrative Officer, ceased to act as Commissioner for Resettlement and Assistant Commissioner, Administration/Operations respectively. Later in the same month Mr. C. P. KEELING, Administrative Officer, was appointed to act as Assistant Commissioner, Administration/Operations in place of Mr. P. BISHOP who went on leave.

In August 1969, Mr. R. G. B. BRIDGE, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, was appointed as Assistant Commissioner, Administration/Operations in place of Mr. C. P. KEELING.
