POSTINGS DURING THE YEAR
142. During the year, the following changes occurred at Assistant Commissioner level or above:
In May, 1967, Mr. S. A. WEBB-JOHNSON, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, was appointed as Assistant Commissioner (Estates) in place of Mr. A. T. CLARK.
In February, 1968, Mr. J. P. Aserappa, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade A, was appointed as Commissioner for Resettlement in place of Mr. D. C. BARTY, O.B.E.
In February, 1968, Mr. A. T. R. JACKSON, Administrative Officer, Staff Grade C, was appointed as Assistant Commissioner (Estates) in place of Mr. S. A. Webb-JohnsoN.
DEPARTMENTAL TRAINING
143. The first senior officers' course, which 18 senior Resettlement Assistants attended, was completed at the end of the year. All trainees passed the prescribed examinations. The first three classes of 67 Student Resettlement Assistants completed their first year's training and four new classes of 100 trainees started during the year. These courses are attended by trainees on a one-day-a-week release basis.
WELFARE
144. The Staff Sports & Welfare Association continued to be active during the year with table tennis and football matches being played between departmental teams and against other departments and associa- tions. A spring children's party for about 1,000 children of members was held in February.
145. The Morrison Scholarship Fund, named after a former Com- missioner for Resettlement, gave grants of $50 each to ten children of minor staff towards the cost of their school fees. A departmental raffle was organized during the year to augment the Fund and a sum of $2,000 was raised.
146. To commemorate the retirement of Mr. D. C. BARTY, O.B.E., the previous Commissioner for Resettlement, a drive for funds for a 'Barty Welfare Fund' was launched within the department in December. The Fund is administered by the Staff Sports & Welfare Association and disbursements will be limited to welfare purposes either for the benefit of departmental staff as a whole, for groups or for individuals. The Fund stood at $9,400 at the end of March.
