management and administration of resettlement accommodation which includes multi-storey domestic estates and factories, and cottage resettlement areas;

(b) Operations, headed by an Assistant Commissioner who is also responsible for general administrative matters, comprises two sub-divisions:

(i) Clearance, under an Administrative Officer, which is respon- sible for the clearance of squatters into resettlement accom- modation.

(ii) Squatter Control, headed by an Administrative Officer, which is responsible for the control and prevention of new unlawful structures, for resiting operations and for pro- cessing tenants of dangerous tenements for the Rent Advance Scheme;

(c) Works, headed by a Maintenance Surveyor seconded from the Public Works Department, is responsible for maintenance work in resettlement estates, as well as construction and maintenance work in cottage and resite areas and the preparation of plans for cultivation clearances.

(d) Headquarters, under the Secretary and Treasury Accountant, is

responsible for the internal administration of the department.

116. Particulars of the establishment on 31st March, 1966 are given in Appendix XI.

117. There are 32 senior posts in the department filled by Adminis- trative Officers, Executive Officers, a Treasury Accountant, Senior Resettlement Officers and Resettlement Officers. During the year, the following changes occurred at the Assistant Commissioner level or above:

In October 1965, Mr. D. C. BARTY, O.B.E., Administrative Officer, Staff Grade A, returned from leave and resumed duty as Commissioner for Resettlement in place of Mr. J. T. WAKEFIELD.

In March 1966, Mr. J. W. SWEETMAN, Administrative Officer, was appointed to act as Assistant Commissioner, Administration/Operations in place of Mr. P. BISHOP who proceeded on leave.

118. During the year under review, the Departmental Sports and Welfare Association held various sporting activities. One of the notable events was a miniature football tournament organized for the 'Leeds' trophy which was won by the Estates/Areas Division. In addition, the
