tiu marriage is also abolished, but here also any rights acquired by parties to a kim tiu marriage celebrated before the appointed day and of the children of their marriage are preserved. The Ordinance also deals with the validity of customary and 'modern' marriages, as defined in the Ordinance, and the post-registration and dissolution of such marriages. Consequential amendments were made to the Marriage Ordinance and the Matrimonial Causes Ordinance, and the Chinese Marriage Preserva- tion Ordinance was repealed. On 10th July 1970 the Governor made the Marriage Reform (Fees) Regulations 1970 and the Marriage Reform (Forms) Regulations 1970, and on 15th December 1970 he appointed 7th October 1971 to be the appointed day for the purposes of the Ordinance.

208. Section 5 of the Perjury Ordinance provides that it shall be an offence to make a false statement or give false information with reference to certain formalities under the Marriage Ordinance. This section was amended by the Perjury (Amendment) Ordinance 1970 so as to make it an offence for a person to make a false statement in an application for the registration of a customary marriage or validated marriage under section 9 of the Marriage Reform Ordinance 1970, or to furnish false information in connection therewith.

209. The Births and Deaths Registration (Amendment of First Schedule) Order 1970 made certain consequential amendments to the First Schedule to the principal Ordinance following upon the opening of the Aberdeen District Births and Deaths Registry and the transfer from the Ping Shan Police Station to the Yuen Long Police Station of duties relating to the registration of deaths.

210. The Cremation and Gardens of Remembrance (Amendment) Regulations 1971 inter alia removed an anomaly whereby the Registrar of Births and Deaths was empowered to issue a certificate which, having regard to its nature, should only be issued by a registered medical practitioner.
