The registration facilities for the Western District were improved by the removal of the Western District Birth Registry from Tsan Yuk Hospital to the second floor of the Western Magistracy Building on 1st September 1965, from which date it became a combined Birth and Marriage Registry. The Kwong Wah Hospital District Births and Deaths Registry moved to more spacious accommodation at the New Kwong Wah Hospital on 30th October 1965, and the Yuen Long Birth and Marriage Registry moved to the ground floor of the Yuen Long District Office Building on 31st January 1966.

149. According to the 1961 Census the population of the Colony on 7th March 1961 was 3,133,131 including 3,483 persons classified as transients. Since then the estimated population has risen as follows:
