The United States leads with 117 companies, and is followed by the United Kingdom with 78, Japan 55, Singapore 34, Panama 29, and China 28. Table XI gives an analysis of the 493 companies to which this paragraph refers according to the nature of their business. This shows that the total includes 114 import and export companies, 77 insurance companies, 40 banks, 39 shipping, shipbuilding and ship- breaking companies, 26 religious bodies, 24 carriers (air and land) and 24 land and building companies.

66. By Gazette Notification No. 837 of 19th April 1962 it was notified that His Excellency the Governor had been pleased to appoint a Committee with the following terms of reference:

'To consider and make recommendations as to the revision of the Company Legislation of Hong Kong, and in particular to recommend as soon as possible whether legislation for preven- tion of fraud in relation to investments is required and if so, the form which it should take.'

The Committee was constituted as follows:

The Registrar General (Chairman);

The Deputy Economic Secretary;

A representative of the Attorney General;

Mr. C. H. WONG (F) (representing the Incorporated Law Society

of Hong Kong);

Mr. L. KADOORIE, J.P. (representing the Hong Kong General Chamber

of Commerce);

Mr. C. G. SMITH, C.A. (representing the Association of the Chartered

Accountants in Hong Kong);
