LAND REGISTRY

1. The total number of instruments registered under the Land Registration Ordinance (Cap. 128) for 1952/53 was 6,539, which compares with an average of 3,646 for 1937 1939, the three pre-war years included in Table I appended, and an average of 6,257 for the six years 1946/47 - 1951/52.

The sum total of the consideration money stated in the various instruments registered in the Land Office in 1952/53 was $325,884,172.16, which is nearly $8,000,000.00 greater than the comparable figure for 1951/52, and is the highest figure yet recorded.
3. The number of instruments registered in each of the last ten years for which figures are available is given in Table I. Table II shows for 1952/1953 the number of documents regis- tered in each category and Table III gives details by months.
Crown Leases.
4. As shown in Tables I and VI 183 Crown Leases were issued in 1952/53, as compared with 159 in 1951/52 and the fees for the year totalled $26,599.00. Table IV shows the numbers and types of Leases issued by localities and Table V the monthly figures.
Surrenders of Crown Leases.
5. 69 Deeds of Surrender to the Crown comprising 96 lots or sections were registered in 1952/53 and the total considera- tion paid on such surrenders was $8,630,000.00. These included three large purchases by Government namely, Inland Lot No. 82, Section A "The French Mission" at Battery Path, Inland Lot No. 1453 "The Hermitage" at Kennedy Road and New Kowloon Marine Lot No. 8 a Coal Yard at Lai Chi Kok for which the prices were $2,850,000.00, $780,000.00 and $5,000,000.00 respec- tively.
