DEVELOPMENT AND AIRPORT DIVISION

This Division is responsible for investigating the engineering feasibility of schemes for the provision of land for urban development in Kowloon and New Kowloon and carrying out formation of land and provision of services for the schemes. It is also engaged in formation of land for Tai Po Industrial Estate on behalf of Hong Kong Industrial Estate Corporation.

6.09

The Division is also responsible for planning, design and construction of civil engineering works in connection with the development and maintenance of Hong Kong Airport and is involved in engineering works required for the future use of Sek Kong airfield.

6.10

Another responsibility of the Division is the monitoring and co-ordination of solid waste disposal throughout Hong Kong, with particular reference to the planning and operation of controlled refuse tips.

Planning and Investigation

6.11

The feasibility report on development north of La Salle Road was approved and the one on Tai Hom was revised. Feasibility studies on further development at Kwun Tong and Sam Ka Tsuen, and at Yuen Long for the development of an industrial estate, continued. Planning for land formation for Tai Po Industrial Estate Stage II was in hand. Investigation into the engineering feasibility of development of a controlled refuse tip at Junk Bay was started and similar work near Shuen Wan was carried out to find a replacement for the existing Shuen Wan controlled tip.

6.12

The Division's annual contract for site investigation, under which works are carried out for all Offices of the Department, functioned well. The total depth of probes, drill holes, bore holes and open trial pits sunk was 17,500 metres.
