6.06 This Division is responsible for the management of civil engineering projects entrusted to Consulting Engineers. Seven firms of Consulting Engineers were engaged on 24 projects.
6.07 Steady progress was maintained on the investigation, design and construction on all projects entrusted to Consultants. Negotiations were finalised on three feasibility studies, one for the Development of Junk Bay, another for the investigation of appropriate sites for an abattoir in the New Territories and one for a geotechnical engineering study for a second railway tunnel through Beacon Hill. Consultants' agreements were signed for two pollution control projects. Design work proceeded on the North West Kowloon Sewage Treatment Scheme and the report for the Sha Tin Refuse Composting Plant was completed. Construction of the Kwai Chung Incinerator continued and the civil engineering design of the Chai Wan Composting Plant was begun following award of the plant contract. Construction of the Interim Sewage Treatment Plant at Sha Tin was nearing completion. Ten international tenders were invited for the supply and erection of the electrical equipment for the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Plant during the year and three contracts had been awarded. Tenders were called from pre-qualified contractors towards the end of the year for the construction of the civil engineering and building works of the
