The Operations Division is subdivided into three sections, namely Maintenance, Operations and Support Services.

11.91 The Maintenance Section is concerned with all aspects of on-site supervision of plant erection and commissioning. It also deals with on-site design work in connection with the routing of power and control cables, and with residual design matters where problems of installation, performance or reliability arise. 11.96 Meetings were also held from time to time with the plant contractors on claims and other contractual matters.

11.97 Specialist firms and organisations in the U.K. and overseas were consulted on a range of technical problems including mothballing of idle plant and the interpretation of corrosion monitoring results. Arrangements were also made for specialist divers to carry out further repairs to the outfall pipes.

11.98 Quarterly estimates of loan withdrawals and certificates of progress continued to be furnished to the Asian Development Bank, as required under the loan agreement.

Future Desalting Projects

11.99 Messrs. Binnie & Partners were commissioned to carry out a survey on the present state of the art of various desalting processes and to report on the feasibility and costs of the joint production of water and electricity.
