Good progress was made on the 1:2500 metric series which is being produced as a base plan for the Town Planning Office.

It was decided to extend the scope of 1:7500 dual language street map series to include the larger urban areas of the New Territories. Of the total 23 sheets, 15 have been completed and the remainder should be finished by the end of 1976.

The 1:20 000 series covering the whole of Hong Kong in 15 sheets has made very rapid progress and is well ahead of schedule. With the assistance of Director of Military Surveys (U.K.) who is doing most of the work on the three northernmost sheets, the series should be completed by the end of 1976.

A new deluxe version of the 2-sheet 1:50 000 map was published early in the year.
Much painstaking effort went into making this a prestige product and this was well rewarded as the 1st edition of 5000 copies quickly sold out and a 2nd edition was printed in September. Revision for a new edition of the 1:100 000 map was completed during the year.

The 3rd edition of the Hong Kong Official Guide Map was published and remains very popular, with monthly sales of about 1000 copies.

Sheets 1 & 2 of the Countryside Series were both reprinted and sold out during the year. Reprintings have been arranged. Sheet 3 covering Lantau and Islands was completed and will be on sale in April, 1976.

A new venture started during the year was a comprehensive bilingual Streets and Places Guide Book. Volume 1, covering Hong Kong and Islands, is well advanced and should be printed in June, 1976.

This section continued to operate at full capacity during the year. Although total production fell by about 22% this was mainly in the simpler products and reflects the general slowdown in development during the year. On the other hand there was a considerable increase in the use of new, complex, techniques as a result of the increasingly sophisticated maps and other products of the Cartographic Group.
