6.21 Good progress was maintained on contracts for controlled tipping of refuse at Gin Drinkers Bay and Shuen Wan. Contract A for the controlled tipping of refuse at Gin Drinkers Bay was completed and contract B commenced. A controlled tipping contract at Ma Tso Lung was let, as well as a road works contract for the future tipping site at Siu Lang Shui. The controlled tip at Ngau Chi Wan was put into operation. A total of 965,000 tonnes of refuse was treated by controlled tipping technique.
Airport Development
6.22 Pavement construction under Stage II of the Apron and Taxiway Extension Project was completed and the taxiway was put into use.
6.23 Construction of the new air cargo apron and associated facilities continued and good progress was maintained.
6.24 Work progressed on major drainage contracts; one 560 metre-long four-cell box culvert was completed and work commenced on the final extension of the Kai Tak Nullah.
6.26 Maintenance and minor new works to a total value of $1,289,000 were carried out during the year. The work included a number of apron slab repairs and replacements, joint removals and repairs to taxiway light seatings. The painting of runway and taxiway day markings continued and two rubber deposit removal operations were carried out on the runway during the year.

6.27 This Division is responsible for the investigation, planning, design and construction of major stormwater drains, sewers, sewage treatment and disposal works in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. The Division is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of Government sewage plants and the implementation of a programme for monitoring the quality of Hong Kong waters.
Construction
6.28 Major works completed or commenced during the year on Hong Kong Island included the construction of stormwater drains and sewers associated with the Chai Wan Road extension, the construction of the Aberdeen intercepting sewer and submarine outfall, the extension of stormwater drains in Wong Chuk Hang and reclamation work in Central District and Kennedy Town.
