Throughout the year the Kennedy Town Abattoir operated for 24-hours daily to facilitate modifications and extension work. In the first half of the year this required re-structuring of staff to cover the longer operating hours. The switch of routine maintenance staff to operating functions caused a large backlog of maintenance work. Towards the middle of the year additional temporary posts were approved and when these were filled it was possible to maintain a reasonable level of maintenance.

The Cheung Sha Wan Abattoir operated satisfactorily throughout the year.
During the last Quarter the additional pig slaughtering equipment and Plant 'D' refrigeration plant were taken over for operation and maintenance.
