Airport Development

6.24

Six new aircraft parking bays constructed under Stage II of the Apron and Taxiway Extension Project were completed and are in use. A short length of the taxiway was still outstanding pending the completion of the adjacent section of the Airport Tunnel Road.

6.25

Good progress was maintained on major drainage contracts. The Kai Tak Nullah extension and two other arterial culverts in close vicinity were completed during the year. Plans for a further 270 metre extension of the Kai Tak Nullah were in hand.

Surfacing works were completed in conjunction with the development of the Apron Services Complex.

6.27

Construction for the new air cargo apron and associated facilities had commenced and good progress was maintained.

6.28

Contract works for a new taxiway and four parking bays for the R.A.F. were in progress and ahead of schedule.

Maintenance and minor new works to a total value of $889,000 were carried out during the year. An increased programme of runway painting, apron slab repairs and joint renewal was executed, substandard triple pit covers in the main apron were replaced and work commenced on repairs to the outer taxiway bridge.

Miscellaneous works for other departments or offices valued at $940,000 were completed. These included civil engineering works in connection with a Terminal Building Modification for the Architectural Office, modifications to substations, pits and ducts for H.T. ring main improvements for the Electrical & Mechanical Office, and installation of VASI approach guidance system at runway 13 and minor security works items for the Civil Aviation Department.
