A total of 154 major and approximately 1,100 minor items of alterations, additions and improvements to Government buildings were executed at a cost of $3,824,860.
Work of a similar nature carried out in Services establishments amounted to $5,869,184.
4.30
Works were executed by three triennial building maintenance contracts, which were renewed during the year by 3 annual contracts timed to expire coincidental with the introduction of computerisation of maintenance bills. There were twenty-four specialist contracts and seven triennial cleaning contracts.
4.31
Other items of work undertaken by the Maintenance Branch included minor security and defence works and items for other departments ordered on the Maintenance Contracts. Surveys and reports were made on several properties acquired by Government on lease.
4.32
Regular inspections were made, by the Building Supervisor and his staff, of those offices and non-departmental quarters for whose cleaning and general management the Maintenance Branch is responsible. During the year approval was given, on a trial basis, to employ commercial security guards to patrol two new blocks of leased quarters in addition to the 125 directly employed watchmen already provided in the existing quarters. The letting of an annual contract was in hand at the end of the year.

During the year approval was given and preparatory works put in hand for the implementation of Electronic Data Processing for the calculation of contractors' accounts and this should come into effect in 1975/76.
4.34
Recruitment was maintained at a good rate for professional officers and there was an improvement in the staff position in supervisory grades due to the re-phasing of some capital works projects. While vacancies remain in this grade maintenance contracts will continue to be undersupervised.
NEW WORKS
4.35
The following paragraphs briefly describe some of the Architectural Office projects which were completed or which were under construction during the year.
Full lists of such projects costing more than $50,000.00 each are given at Appendices K and L respectively. Consultants who were engaged on certain projects are listed at Appendix M.
Airport
4.36
Construction of the Airport Apron Services Complex was completed in December 1974.
4.37
The year saw the completion of the 747 Nose-in Pier Stands 3 & 4 and two air bridges to each stand; also commencement of work for Stand 5. As an interim measure, a temporary link between Stand 6 and the Terminal Building was completed in January 1975.

Piling for the Multi-Storey Car Park was completed in December 1974.
