TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT SURVEY DIVISION

The Traffic & Transport Survey Division acts as a service agency to any Government Department requiring surveys or information associated with the movement of people or goods.

The findings of the more significant surveys are issued in the form of technical reports of which 41 were distributed during the year. A total of 25 data records were also issued, containing the results of minor surveys.

Hong Kong Comprehensive Transport Study, 1973/74

9.97

Work on this study, by consultants, continued with its scope extended to include an examination of the transport implications of two additional land use alternatives. The development of the transportation models had reached an advanced stage and work on forecasting travel demand in 1981 was in hand. As part of this project, a report on the New Territories Transport Requirements to 1983 was submitted by the consultants.

Bus Studies

Progress was maintained on the bus inventory and characteristics studies with reports on thirty-five bus routes published. A before-and-after study of the Mid-Levels Bus Priority Scheme which was introduced in April 1974 was carried out and reported on.

Taxi Level of Service Survey

A technical report on the level of services provided by taxis in July 1974 after the fare increase and de-zoning was completed and issued.

Kowloon-Canton Railway Survey

An interview survey of K.C.R. passengers was conducted on board southbound trains between University Station and Tsim Sha Tsui Station to assess the implications of the forthcoming move of the latter station to Hung Hom.

Tabulations of the collected data were completed and report preparation was in hand.
