9.89 A comprehensive study was carried out on the effects of wide-bodied tram cars on road capacity.
9.90 A report on the performance of the mini-roundabout introduced at Piper's Hill Interchange as part of the traffic diversion works was completed and circulated.

9.91 Examination of Town Planning Layouts prepared by the Town Planning Office continued throughout the year. Recommendations and comments covering traffic engineering aspects were made in each case.
9.92 On the Island, a total of 53 traffic engineering schemes were prepared, including 5 segments of the long term road proposals and 3 grade-separated intersections.
9.93 On the Mainland, proposals for a large number of major traffic engineering schemes were planned. Among the more important ones were the Sham Shui Po Ferry Concourse Complex, Improvement to Tuen Mun Roundabout, Route Alignment of Sha Tin - Tai Po Coastal Road and Island House Interchange, widening of Tai Po Road north of Lam Kam Road junction and Wai Yip Street Extension.
