7.03. Boom conditions in the property market continued and prices realized at public auction were close to and in some cases exceeded 1964 levels. The total revenue from sale of Crown land by public auction or tender amounted to $150 million, an increase of $82 million over the previous year. The most noteworthy sale of the year was of a lot (Inland Lot No. 8225) having an area of about 52,000 square feet situated on the Central Reclamation in front of Union House and the Mandarin Hotel. The lot was bought by a leading land Investment Company at a price of $258 million, equivalent to $4,868 per square foot. In considering this figure account should be taken of the terms of sale which allowed payment of the sale price by instalments free of interest over a period of 10 years. The purchasers propose to erect a 52-storey commercial office building on the lot and by the end of the year foundation work was already well advanced. In association with
