Institution of Civil Engineers. As part of their training, they attended a two-week intensive induction course.
6.76. A 28-week full-time development training course was conducted by the Technical Training Unit for 40 newly-recruited Foremen. On completion of this course, the trainee Foremen will continue to undergo a 12-month period of in-service field training and also a 4-year part-time day-release course specially organized by the Hong Kong Technical College.
6.77. A refresher training course of eight weeks duration for serving Foremen was arranged, at which 17 Foremen nominated by the various Divisions attended.
6.78. One refresher course of 6 weeks duration was organized by the Training Unit for serving Assistant Inspectors of Works. A total of ten officers attended the course in which civil engineering construction and contract procedure were the main topics.
Welfare
6.79. Joint Staff Discussion Groups on a Divisional basis were continued with a view to promoting the mutual understanding and co-operation among all the staff in the Office. Regular meetings were arranged throughout the year.
6.80. In the P.W.D. Swimming Gala and Sports Day held in November 1970 and February 1971 respectively, encouraging records were achieved by the staff of the Office, who won four of the swimming events, the one mile walking race, the volley ball championship and the golf championship as well as several second and third places.
