10.63. The surge protection equipment installed on the water main between Shum Chun and Muk Wu pumping station was inspected and overhauled in accordance with the maintenance programme.

10.64. A new medium voltage switchboard was purchased and installed at Tai Tam Tuk pumping station replacing obsolete equipment installed when the station was originally commissioned. The re-wiring of nine installations was completed.

10.65. High voltage motors associated with the two 900 horse-power pumpsets at Tsuen Wan Pumping Station were re-wound, overhauled and re-commissioned.

10.66. Training of staff in Industrial Safety continued to be provided by the Labour Department. In-service training of technical apprentices and the upgrading of staff at all levels continued throughout the year.

10.68. The Sau Mau Ping salt water pumping station, with a total pumping capacity of 7 million gallons per day, was commissioned to augment the supply of flushing water.

10.69. Two temporary diesel pumpsets were installed in Lam Tei Pumping station to augment the water supply to the Yuen Long Filters pending the procurement and installation of three new permanent pumpsets.

10.70. The pumpsets at Cheung Chau pumping station were replaced by larger units to increase the output from 720,000 gallons to 1,440,000 gallons per day to meet the increase in demand on Cheung Chau Island.
