A study of recreational traffic was also carried out to establish those routes on which the proportion of recreational traffic might materially influence traffic pattern and growth. Road traffic associated with current container activities at the Hong Kong Whampoa Dock Co. Terminal was studied and the results used to predict the traffic implications of a proposal to establish a container terminal at Tai Wan.

Other studies undertaken included the observation of vehicular and pedestrian movements at some seventy pedestrian problem locations throughout the Colony, an assessment of the effect of public light buses on a moving traffic stream, a survey of the passenger waiting time at bus termini, a traffic assignment study to estimate the volume of traffic that would use the proposed Tsuen Wan-Castle Peak Road and Tsuen Wan by-pass in the next fifteen years, a survey of taxi passenger waiting times at popular pick-up points in the urban area and studies of the effects on traffic flow of the banning of parking, loading and unloading activities on Shanghai Street and of the temporary closure of Chater Road at weekends.
