9.85. Building development and redevelopment in the private sector continued to increase rapidly in 1970-71. Proposals for 7 petrol filling stations, 8 schools, 4 cinemas and a large number of residential, commercial, hotel and industrial projects were examined by the Traffic Engineering (H.K.) Division and comments on the traffic engineering aspects were made to the various conferences, Government Divisions and Authorized Architects.
9.86. Proposals for 25 schools, 21 petrol filling stations, 17 cinemas, 12 hotels and a considerable number of residential, commercial and industrial projects were also dealt with by the Mainland Division.

9.87. The Traffic and Transport Survey Division acts as a service agency to any Government Department requiring surveys or information associated with the movement of people or goods.
9.88. The findings of the more significant surveys are issued in the form of technical reports and technical notes: 18 were distributed during the year. 34 data records were also issued, containing the results of minor surveys.
The Traffic Census
9.89. The traffic census covering the Island, Kowloon and the New Territories continued throughout the year. Data on hourly, daily and monthly traffic flows was collected at 278 sites throughout the Colony and the results were summarized in half-yearly reports. To facilitate the study of the yearly traffic growth and the variation of travel patterns through the year, an annual summary was also issued.

9.90. The comprehensive parking survey continued. It included the collection of data on the amount and type of off-street and on-street
