New Projects Completed
8.04. During the year under review, new projects completed included installation of fuel storage systems at Canton Road Fire Station, Rumsey Street Multi-storey Car Park, Shek Pik Training Centre, Sai Ying Pun Medical Institute and Kowloon Hospital. Provision of additional laundry equipment was made at Tai Lam Women's Prison and new laundry facilities were arranged for Chi Ma Wan, Shek Pik, Cape Collinson and Stanley Training Centres. At Kai Tak Airport the second trolley conveyor for departure baggage was repositioned, new substation 'D' reconnected into the 11,000 volts system and, on behalf of Architectural Office, the conveyors for arrival baggage and also the six passenger bridges to aircraft parking bays Nos. 6 and 7 were commissioned. Steam services were installed for Kowloon Hospital New Block, the old boiler room at Queen Mary Hospital was completely reconditioned and a fuel oil storage system for the sea water pump-house serving Queen Elizabeth Hospital was arranged. At the Incinerator plants magnetic separators were commissioned at Kennedy Town and Lai Chi Kok and, at the latter plant, the 2500 KW Turbo-Alternator, 11,000 volts switchboard, steam pipe-work from boilers to turbine and a sea-water cooling system were also installed. A jib crane was provided for North Point Fire Services Pier, the repainting of fuel storage tanks at Tathong Point and the erection of two 5 tons electric overhead travelling cranes at Government Dockyard at Yau Ma Tei were also completed.
Design
8.05. The preliminary investigation, design work, preparation of specifications and detail drawings for a number of new projects were in various stages at the end of the year. Among these were the passenger access bridges for aircraft parking bay No. 8 at Kai Tak Airport; a new 900-tons per day Incineration Plant for Kwai Chung; generating sets for Stonecutters Island main and standby electricity supplies; electrical installations at Yuen Long and Castle Peak sewage pumping stations; mail conveyor system at G.P.O. Connaught Road; steam services at Mount Kellett Hospital, Lai Chi Kok Hospital, Shau Ki Wan Medical Department Laundry and Queen Mary Hospital Pathology Block; modifications to improve the capacity of Cheung Sha Wan Abattoir; laundry systems at Starling Inlet Open Prison, Preventive Service Training School, Dragon's Back Training Centre and Maximum
