The architectural consultants for the scheme are Messrs. Easton and Robertson of London, who prepared sketch designs for the hospital and the layout of the site, and who are maintaining close contact with this office as the project develops.

Additions to this hospital included a single-storey 36-bed maternity ward and a staff recreation centre, while construction is nearing completion on a three-storey theatre and ward block which will provide two major and two minor operating theatres, wards for 70 additional beds, and ancillary accommodation. Working drawings were completed for a new kitchen block for the hospital.

URBAN SERVICES AND PUBLIC BUILDINGS
36. After many years of planning and detailed work, the construction of the buildings has started. His Excellency the Governor laid the foundation stone on 25th February, 1960, and by the end of March the foundation structures were finished and work on the superstructure had started. The main building will provide a concert hall for 1,540, capable of adaptation for Chinese opera when required; a theatre for 470 will be linked with the concert hall by the entrance foyer which will have the ballroom and banqueting hall above, with kitchen facilities for Eastern and Western cuisine. A memorial garden courtyard with an elevated promenade will link the main building with an eleven-storey block which will contain the marriage registry, library, lecture theatres, and a small museum and art gallery. The buildings will be air-conditioned throughout.
