Tytam Tuk-Shaukiwan Supply. Reference was made in last year's report to a 2 M.G. per day filtration plant. It was then intended to proceed with this scheme in two stages. A 2 M.G. per day equipment was to be provided in the first instance which would be enlarged to a 3 M.G. per day at a later date. In view of the acute supply position and the wastage of water when the reservoirs are overflowing due to lack of filtration capacity, it was decided to proceed with the whole scheme at once and an order was placed for a filtration plant having a capacity of 3 M.G. per day. In addition to this equipment, 2,000 ft. of 15″ dia. and 20,000 ft. of 8″ dia. C.I. pipes were also ordered.

335. Salt Water Fire Fighting Scheme. A replacement was received free of charge from the manufacturers for the end casing which fractured under test last year. The new casing was installed and has proved satisfactory. The system was used once to assist in combatting a fire at a tenement house.

336. Deep Well Boring-New Territories. The new deep well boring rig was received and an experimental bore was sunk to a depth of approx. 110 ft. in the Homantin Resettlement Area. The well did not prove successful, but the main object of this operation was to train a gang to operate the rig at a place where they could be conveniently supervised and given instruction. The equipment was subsequently moved and set up near Castle Peak at a site chosen by a Geologist attached to Hong Kong University.

337. Central Reclamation Scheme. It was intended that the diversion of the cross harbour mains and the realignment of the main in Garden Road should be completed during the year. The working schedule was based on the expected delivery dates for the pipes quoted by the manufacturers, but they were unable to adhere to their schedule and at the end of the year a number of the special pieces had not even been shipped.

338. The realigned pipeline crosses the Hong Kong Cricket Club ground. Work on this section was commenced early in April and completed by the end of May.
