108. Remand Home. Sketch plans were approved for a new Remand Home in Kowloon. Accommodation is to be provided for sixty juveniles, with dormitories, dining and recreation room, handwork room, office, waiting rooms, and living accommodation for the warden and attendants. Working drawings were nearing completion.
109. Camp for Disabled Destitutes, Lantao. Messrs. Way & Hall were appointed architects for this work. The plans provide accommodation for approximately 1,100 persons in 10 two-storey barrack huts, with separate huts for latrines, ablutions, laundry, dining hall and kitchens. In addition there is a small school and accommodation for blind children, a small hospital block, superintendent's bungalow with living room, two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom and quarters for 5 staff in single rooms with communal living rooms and toilet facilities. Working drawings were nearly completed by the end of the year.
110. Social Welfare Centre, Blake Gardens. The Social Welfare Office occupied the old St. Peter's Church adjoining Western Police Station. When this was demolished to make way for the new Police Station, alternative accommodation had to be provided for the Social Welfare Office. The new building, consisting of club room, laundry, offices, street sleepers' shelter and lavatories, was constructed on a site at Blake Gardens. Work was completed in November.
111. Kowloon Food Kitchen. After the Shek Kip Mei fire, it became apparent that the present facilities for emergency feeding of fire victims were inadequate. Plans were approved for a new food kitchen capable of preparing 60,000 meals per day. Construction commenced in January.
112. Rehousing of Shek Kip Mei Fire Victims. Immediately after the squatter hut fire at Shek Kip Mei village on Christmas Day which made 60,000 persons homeless, an emer-
