An existing transit shed was converted into a Health Centre, with a waiting room, consulting rooms, treatment and examination rooms and caretaker's quarters. Work commenced in July and was completed in September.
Cost of the buildings was given high priority.
In view of this generous offer and the urgent need, the scheme was given high priority.
Page 73. Tsun Wan Health Centre. Owing to the growing population of Tsun Wan and surrounding district, it became necessary to provide a Government Clinic in the area.
Private donors offered to contribute half; the Government would pay the remainder. The main building is designed on three floors with an Out-patients department consisting of a waiting hall, three consulting rooms, dispensary, surgical dressing room and a casualty ward on the ground floor, a Maternity hospital for sixteen patients, a maternity ward, labour ward, isolation ward, duty room and utility rooms, on the first floor, and living accommodation consisting of two small flats for the doctor and the health officer, and bedrooms for the nurses and midwives on the top floor. A small two-storey wing provides accommodation for the amahs and dressers. Owing to the nature of the ground, the whole of the foundations had to be piled, and in order to bring the ground floor of the building to the level of the adjoining road, it was necessary to raise the site thirteen feet.
Construction commenced in August, and was nearing completion by the end of the year.
Page 74. Casualty Reception & Housemen's Quarters, Queen Mary Hospital. Sketch plans were prepared and approved for an extension to the Queen Mary Hospital to provide improved casualty reception facilities on the ground floor and living accommodation on the upper floors for eighteen housemen. The new additions will include five cubicles for casualty treatment, two operating theatres, a casualty ward, an isolation ward, a waiting room, a doctors' room and sister's room.
Working drawings were commenced.
