59. Central Supply Room, Queen Mary Hospital. This scheme, which involved adding an additional floor to an existing building to provide blood donors cubicles, a laboratory, sterilizing rooms and storage space, was completed in July.
60. Government Clinic Wanchai. In order to accommodate the four departments which were to be housed in this building, (T.B. Clinic, Mass Mini X-Ray, Physiotherapy and Dental), it was necessary to plan the building on three floors. This caused considerable difficulty in the planning of the entrances and exits, since it was important that the large crowds which would attend the T.B. Clinic should not mix with the patients visiting the other departments. A satisfactory solution was obtained by the use of three staircases, and by placing the Physiotherapy and X-Ray on the ground floor, the T.B. Clinic on the first floor and the dental clinic and staff rooms on the top floor. Owing to a very steep fall in ground level across the width of the building, two additional floors below ground floor had to be constructed to bring the building up to the level of the adjoining road. These additional floors are used for storage space and lecture rooms.
Construction commenced in May and was nearing completion by the end of the year.
61. New Mental Hospital. When it was found that the site originally reserved for this hospital at Aberdeen would be quite inadequate for the purpose, several alternative sites were investigated in the New Territories. An excellent site, consisting of about 40 acres of undulating ground N.W. of the 21st milestone on Castle Peak Road, was found, and the land was resumed.
62. The site will be divided into four zones, one for male patients, one for female patients, one for administration and communal services sited between the male and female zones, and the remainder for staff quarters. The hospital will provide
