324. Service Reservoirs. All reservoirs were cleaned and examined during the winter months. The walls and invert of Eastern service reservoir, which was mentioned in last year's report, were satisfactorily repaired and a leakage of approx. 60,000 gallons per day stopped.

325. Unsatisfactory water samples from the Peak tank and the 750 tank above Po Shan Road were traced to leakage of surface water through the roof. Repair work was completed.

326. A satisfactory supply could not be given to a few houses at the very top of the Peak nor to some new development along Black's Link near Wong Nei Chong Gap. In order to improve the position a 32,000 gallon steel tank was erected above the existing Peak tank and a reinforced concrete tank constructed at Wong Nei Chong.

327. Pineapple Pass Dam. When this Dam was first built a certain amount of movement took place and observations taken during the year showed that it was still moving outwards.

328. Various trial holes were opened up and it was found that the concrete core wall had cracked. Undisturbed samples of earth were taken from the fill on the upstream side of the Dam and also from the natural ground on the slopes downstream. All available information was sent to Messrs. Binnie, Deacon and Gourley, the designers. They reported as follows:

"Rock-filled dams of this type settle horizontally as well as vertically, and that this settlement may continue for many years is an established fact. The movement at
