GENERAL.
12. Satisfactory progress on all the schemes included in the five-year programme of major public works for implementation during the year was maintained. In addition, a number of urgent and important additional works were carried out, private architects being engaged for some of the projects.
New Central Government Offices.
13. Preliminary details of the planning of the building were given in the 1950/51 Report, but these have been amended by the addition of an extra floor to the first section. Work on this section was started in August, and in spite of delays occasioned by bad weather, the progress was up to schedule by the end of the year. Sketch plans for the second section have been prepared.
City Hall.
14. A number of alternative sketch designs were prepared by Professor R. Gordon Brown in association with the Chief Architect, P.W.D. and in March a start was made on the detailed development of the design selected by Government.
Residential Buildings.
15. Severn Road Houses. Details of this scheme were given in last year's report, and the houses were completed in August.
16. Peak Bungalows. This scheme was referred to in last year's report, as the working drawings were then nearing completion. Work was started in July and completed in December.
