32. Small Scale Maps :-The 8 inches to 1 mile map of Kowloon Peninsula was traced and issued.

CONTOUR SURVEYS AND Levelling.

33. In Hong Kong, the Valley of Wongneichong, an area of 114 acres and building sites on Repulse Bay Road, area 9 acres, were contoured and plotted scale 1/600 vertical interval 10 feet. Other areas contoured and plotted aggregated 214 acres with a total chainage of 26,300 feet.

In New Kowloon and New Territories contour surveys totalled 21 acres with chainage of 8,700 feet. These surveys were plotted to a scale of 1/600 and vertical interval of 10 feet.

Contour surveys were made of sand beaches and areas adjacent at Sau Chau Island and Gin Drinkers Bay totalling 57 acres with coast line of 8,000 feet. These surveys were plotted to a scale of 1/2400 and contours shown in metres at 5 metre intervals.

A line of levels was run between Pipers Hill and Anderson Road to define the 500 feet contour-Chainage 62,750 feet.

A new bench mark was fixed in the temple at Shek O Village and valued from F. B. M. "0".

Miles stones 4/52 and 51/51 were re-fixed and re-valued from Kowloon B. M. No. 61 and the F. B. M. at Kowloon Reservoir.

Thefts of Staple bench marks decreased considerably during the year, the new type and method of fixing has defeated the metal hunters.

The altitudes of the many rain gauges in the Colony were obtained for the Royal Observatory.

The annual inspection of bench marks was made and several Staple type re-fixed and re-valued.

Mean Sea Level for 1937 was computed from tide gauge records.
