99. Of the 429 allegations of corruption received, no further action was taken in 21 cases as there was insufficient information upon which to base an enquiry. One case was referred to another Police Formation for action. 96 cases are still under preliminary enquiry, the majority having been reported in the first quarter of 1969.

100. A total of 295 cases were referred to the Target Committee on Corruption, which sat on 17 occasions during the year, and which allocated the cases referred to it as follows:

(i) To be investigated by A.C. Branch

(ii) To be investigated by other Police Formations (iii) To be referred to other Government Departments

(iv) No further action directed by the Target Committee

There are 16 more cases awaiting reference to the Committee.

101. Of the year's total of 429 allegations of corruption, 192 (44.7%) were directed against Police Officers. No further action was taken in ten cases, as there was insufficient information on which to base enquiries, whilst

whilst one

case was referred to another Police Formation for action. 38 cases are still under preliminary enquiry, six cases are awaiting reference to the Target Committee on Corruption at the next meeting and 137 cases have been referred to it. Of these 137 cases, 25 were referred to the Anti-Corruption Branch for further investigations. This resulted in seven allegations being substantiated, eight being unsubstantiated; and ten were still under investigation at the end of the year. Of the remainder, in 53 cases the Target Committee directed that no further action be taken, and 59 cases were referred to other Police Formations for action as they concerned only general allegations. A summary of action taken against Police Officers involved in corruption cases which were heard in Court or dealt with depart- mentally is as follows:
